A Friday dispatch with tips and tools to help you keep your kitchen fresh and clean (enough, anyway). |
As a cleaning columnist, I never have to worry about running out of supplies for my own home.
Because I'm often in search of the best (or best smelling) product in its category, I don't just buy one dish soap or dish spray, I buy eight or more at a time and test them all until I can confidently declare a winner. And don't even get me started on the unsolicited samples of sprays, tools, and gadgets.
But I'm picky about my cleaning products, so even with all of that excess, I still have a few favorites I turn to for my everyday kitchen upkeep. Keep scrolling to find the five I don't want to ever be without. |

| This all-purpose spray is my favorite option for the kitchen. The vinegar breaks down grease and grime, neutralizes odors, and leaves hard surfaces completely free of spots and streaks—yes, even my stainless steel appliances and glass induction cooktop. Plus, it's kid-safe and pet-safe. |

| Once used to tackle anything my soft cellulose sponge couldn't, this colorful scrubby is now my go-to dish cleaning tool. It's gentle enough for glassware yet textured enough to clean baked-on grime from my enameled cast iron cookware. When it starts to feel less than fresh, I just put it in the dishwasher. It's machine washable too. |

I originally bought this powdered citric acid to combat build up in my old dishwasher, but since then, I've discovered it can be used for so much more. I use it to descale my Nespresso machine and my countertop ice maker, as well as to clear the mineral deposits from my tea kettle and the base of my faucet. |

I am so committed to my lemon-scented Aunt Fannie's all-purpose cleaning vinegar that I now have the refill on subscription. Instead of getting a new 17-ounce spray bottle every month, I get a 64-ounce jug every three months. I use fewer plastic bottles, reduce my shipping carbon footprint, and always have my favorite spray cleaner when I need it. |

It turns out that powdered laundry detergent is good for more than just deodorizing kitchen towels. A few years ago, I also discovered that Tide with bleach is the key to keeping a white kitchen sink bright and white. Just fill your sink with hot water, add a few scoops of the detergent, and let it soak overnight. |
