Shared Living Medication Administration Course
June 2, 2026
The Office of Aging and Disability Services (OADS) is issuing this notice to Shared Living providers and Administrative Oversight Agencies regarding reimbursement for the Shared Living Medication Administration Course for providers serving individuals under Section 21, Home and Community Benefits for Members with Intellectual Disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Section 29, Support Services for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Currently, OADS allows providers who successfully complete the Shared Living Medication Administration Course to submit an invoice with their Shared Living program materials for consideration of reimbursement by OADS.
Effective Date: July 1, 2026
Notice: Effective July 1, 2026, OADS will no longer reimburse providers for the Shared Living Medication Administration Course. This change creates reimbursement parity across providers, as OADS does not directly reimburse other provider types for training costs.
This notice does not change any existing provider training, qualification, certification, or documentation requirements. Shared Living providers must continue to meet all applicable requirements for service delivery under Sections 21 and 29. A Shared Living provider is legally authorized to assist with the administration of medication if the provider is certified as a Certified Nursing Assistant-Medications (CAN-M), a Certified Residential Medication Aide (CRMA), a Registered Nurse (RN), or otherwise has been trained to administer medications through a training program specifically for Family-Centered or Shared Living model homes and is authorized, certified, or approved by DHHS.
Providers who complete the course prior to July 1, 2026, should submit reimbursement requests under current procedures. Reimbursement will not be available for course costs incurred on or after July 1, 2026.
Administrative Oversight Agencies are expected to distribute this information to affected providers and to continue oversight of required training documentation.
