State senators agreed with changes the state House made to a higher education reform bill, advancing Senate Bill 1 to Gov. Mike DeWine, who has said he will likely sign the measure.

The measure eliminates most mandatory diversity, equity, and inclusion training at Ohio universities. It also bans faculty strikes, requires a U.S. history course for students, and shortens university trustee terms, among other provisions.

On the DEI ban, "This is not about censure or about erasure. It's not about exclusion," said state Sen. Michele Reynolds, R-Canal Winchester. DEI creates "a culture where we are defined by our categories instead of our character," she said.

State Sen. Kent Smith, D-Euclid, said the bill is "the worst attack on academic freedom in Ohio in modern history."

For Cincinnati, reliever Ian Gibaut entered the ninth inning with a 3-2 lead but allowed four runs. The Reds scraped back only one run in the bottom of the ninth. See Game Summary.

Geneva-on-the-Lake, a village along Lake Erie, headlines World Atlas' list of most neighborly towns in the Buckeye State. The town offers a nearly 700-acre state park, wine tours, mini golf, and more.

Several other northern towns made the list: Millersburg, Twinsburg, Marblehead, Put-in-Bay, Mansfield, and Sugarcreek. You can see photos of each of the 10 small towns here.

Others on the list are spread across the middle of the state. Yellow Springs, near Dayton, offers Young's Jersey Dairy and scenic Clifton Mill. Circleville is known for its annual pumpkin festival, and Marietta is Ohio's first permanent settlement.
