| Hi reader, I've lived in the Midwest my entire life and, while I love giving heartland classics an updated twist, there's nothing like cozying up with a bowl of my Grandma's Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup, digging into my Mom's Pasta Salad… or dipping a pizza crust into a bowl of homemade ranch dressing. Tell me you're from the Midwest without telling me... ð That said, I thought it'd be fun to share my favorite, undeniably-Midwest recipes with you today! Midwesterners have a reputation for eating only meat and potatoes, but I think it's important to stop and think about why that is. The Midwest's foundation is farming, and what do farmers need after marathon days in the fields and barns? FOOD! And lots of it, so there's a reason why, historically, our meals are big and hearty. And like any other region in the US, we've got our share of weird, wacky, HUH?! recipes, such as our ability to turn anything — sweet, savory, or otherwise — into a salad. My Grandma was "famous" for her green jello salad that not only had cool whip and walnuts in it, but celery. CELERY. Needless to say, I think my Oreo Fluff "salad" is more of a crowd pleaser. ð If you came to any potluck or get together in the Midwest, chances are you'd see one or a few of these dishes set out to share. From our neck of the woods to yours — I hope you find something to enjoy! #1 Homestyle Beef and Noodles
