Finding the best kitchen towel is harder than you might think.
The best towel should absorb moisture well, and then dry quickly. It needs to be thick and durable enough to use, folded, as an oven mitt. It should stand up to many trips through the washing machine, and come out looking, if not as good as new, at least unwrinkled and minimally stained. I'd like my towel to have a little curb appeal, too (it is going to be out in your kitchen a lot). And, of course, it has to be a good value.
In my testing and research, I found lackluster towels everywhere. But there were three stellar towels lived up to my criteria: Zeppoli Classic 100% Cotton Kitchen Towels, Sticky Toffee Cotton waffle weave kitchen dish towels, and the DII Swedish dishcloth set.
In my experience testing 11 different towels, I recommend a dual approach—buy a set of the super absorbent Swedish dishcloths for cleaning countertop messes, and pair them with a quick-drying cotton set that you'll use for washing your hands.
Best for spills: DII Dishcloth
These small squares of cotton and cellulose feel rigid and rough when dry, but they unfurl and become more pliant as they soak up water (and they soak up a lot of water). The DII dishcloths absorbed the most water out of any towel I tested, and dried surprisingly quickly. They're small, so they work best for wiping down your counters and cleaning spills.
The most versatile: Zeppoli Classic Towels
These 100% cotton towels are beloved by cooks everywhere, including the Bon Appรฉtit Test Kitchen). The light weave means they dry quickly, and they only cost about $20 for a pack of 15. They're great to use as oven mitts, they double as cheese-cloth-like straining mechansims, and they're absorbent enough for drying hands and dishes
