Article Icon 1'Stop WOKE' Act Struck Down

A judge issued a final order Friday to overturn the Stop WOKE Act, a Florida law that limited diversity and race-based discussions in private workplaces.

U.S. District Judge Mark Walker previously ruled the law unconstitutional, which an appeals court upheld in March. Walker’s latest order makes his temporary injunction permanent.

The permanent injunction strikes down the law’s workplace provisions on the basis of First Amendment violations of free speech. The act prohibited businesses from inserting critical-race-theory teachings into student curricula or staff programming.

Whether the provisions can go forward for higher education is still under appeal.

Article Icon 1Boar's Head Recalls Dangerous Cold Cuts

Boar’s Head brand of cold cuts has recalled over 200,000 pounds of meat sliced at deli counters nationwide, including at Publix supermarket chain and other stores in Florida.

The recall includes bologna, garlic bologna, beef bologna, beef salami, Italian Cappy-style ham, and Extra Hot Italian Cappy-style ham stamped with an Aug. 10 sell-by date.

Also included is Steakhouse Roasted Bacon Heat and Eat, with a sell-by date of Aug. 15.

The company said customers should throw away the recalled products or return them to the store for a refund. Health officials said refrigerators should be thoroughly cleaned to prevent contamination of other foods.

Article Icon 1Potential Storms Developing in the Tropics

Following a lull in tropical activity in the past two weeks, two waves in the open Atlantic waters this week could develop into storms that threaten Florida.

The leading one is now being monitored by the National Hurricane Center (NHC), which says it has a 40% chance of developing.

The NHC said conditions could become conducive for storm development in a day or two, and a tropical depression could form around midweek.
