Senate Hearings Probe Trump Attack Failures

Top officials with the U.S. Secret Service and FBI testified before two Senate committees on Tuesday about the security failures that led to the attempted assassination of former President Trump at a Pennsylvania rally.

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe admitted he was "ashamed" of the agency's planning and cited communication breakdowns between the Secret Service and local law enforcement as a key issue.

FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate revealed they discovered a social media account possibly belonging to the shooter with extreme comments, including antisemitic and anti-immigration themes.

Park Fire Now California's Fifth Largest

Fire officials on Tuesday said the Park Fire had grown to more than 383,000 acres, about 600 square miles, making it California’s fifth-largest wildfire in history. See video of the fire here.

The blaze is actively burning across four counties and is only 14% contained. To date, 165 structures have been destroyed, with more than 4,200 additional buildings still at risk. Fortunately, no fatalities among civilians or firefighters have been reported.

On Monday, a suspect appeared in court and was charged with arson for allegedly starting the Park Fire. The individual is accused of pushing a burning car into a ravine, which ignited the massive blaze.

Top 10 Best and Worst States to Retire

Delaware has ranked as the best state to retire, thanks to its tax benefits and overall well-being, while Alaska has ranked as the worst due to harsh weather and high living costs, according to Bankrate’s 2024 study.

The study evaluated all 50 states based on affordability, well-being, healthcare quality, cost, weather, and crime.

Despite being known as a retirement destination, Florida only placed eighth on the best list, while states like New York, Washington, and California ranked poorly due to affordability issues.

Surprisingly, Iowa dropped from the best state to retire to ninth place this year due to rising living costs, and even Colorado and North Dakota ranked in the top 10 worst states for retirement.
