Embargoed virtual press briefing on the launch of the child and adolescent obesity guidelines

The World Health Organization (WHO) will release new guidelines on the management of obesity in children and adolescents, setting out how health systems and health workers can deliver timely, evidence-based and people-centred care.
Obesity is a chronic, relapsing disease. Its consequences can begin early, affecting physical and mental health, quality of life, social well-being and education. Preventing and managing obesity early in life is essential to protect the health of children and adolescents.

New report on trafficking of medical products in Central Africa
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) and WHO will jointly release a landmark report presenting new evidence and analysis on the scale, dynamics and impact of trafficking in medical products across Central Africa. The report sheds light on the significant risks trafficking in medical products poses to public health, economic development and security across the region.
Ahead of the official launch, scheduled for 13:30 CET, a hybrid media briefing will offer journalists an opportunity to hear directly from experts, ask questions about the report’s findings and implications, and receive additional background and context. The media briefing will be held on 6 October at 10:00 CET at the UN House in Brussels. Journalists will be able to connect here.
