We love our desserts when the big family gathers as we do these weeks up north. Never mind that there will also be ice cream cones later ... dessert is still on the table! We go full-on Flag Cake as we always do; it's a delicious tradition. Make it extra-simple with a boxed cake and easy homemade buttercream (which is really what matters, no?!). Bar cookies are a cookout's best friend, and you'll be everyone's best friend if you bake a batch of caramel blondies or strawberry jam bars. It's a great time for strawberry pie, too (rhubarb can be subbed for more berries or peaches).
