RIDDOR reporting of COVID-19

riddor report

HSE has specific guidance on when you should make a RIDDOR report (under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) of COVID-19.

You must only make a report under RIDDOR, relating to coronavirus, when:

  • an unintended incident at work has led to someone's possible or actual exposure to coronavirus. This must be reported as a dangerous occurrence
  • a worker has been diagnosed as having COVID-19 and there is reasonable evidence that it was caused by exposure at work. This must be reported as a case of disease
  • a worker dies as a result of occupational exposure to coronavirus

Visit our website for further details on the above, along with examples.

HSE coronavirus science and research

HSE scientific evidence and research on COVID-19 is helping to improve understanding of how to control the risks of virus transmission in workplaces and other settings.

It is used to inform decision making by HSE policymakers and wider government.

We have published a new science and evidence page which includes information on:

  • rapid evidence review summaries
  • Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE)
  • COVID-19 national core studies

Keep safe when working in wintry weather

wintry weather

As winter is well and truly here, make sure you stay on your feet with HSE's guidance.

With strong winds, heavy rain and low temperatures hitting Britain this week, it is a good time to highlight what a perilous time of year this can be - particularly as slip and trip accidents increase significantly.

There are plenty of seasonal factors to consider when avoiding accidents. Poor lighting, excess water from rain and even gritting can all cause problems.

Take a look at our online guide to avoiding slips and trips in winter weather

HSE will be holding an online Slips and Trips - Falls Prevention training course on 2 and 3 March.

HSE presents a free energy conference in February... book now!

Safe Net Zero 2021 – Hydrogen is an online conference, running over three consecutive mornings. It will look at the evolving work that is helping to deploy hydrogen as an energy vector as part of the UK's commitment to reduce carbon emissions and become 'net zero' by 2050.

Join us online for what promises to be three mornings of valuable insight, learning, discussion and networking.

The conference is delivered in association with Health and Safety Matters magazine and will be opened by HSE's Chair Sarah Newton.
