Hi There,
There's a few herbs I always keep in the cupboard. Ginger for sure. Lemon balm is always a favorite, and spearmint, too.
But one of my favorites is elderberry. It lowers inflammation and supports the immune system - which makes it an excellent herb to have on hand during the cold, dark months.
There's actually a whole section on elderberry in my new cookbook (including the Elderberry-Hibiscus dessert that I make for my kids anytime they're sick). You can preorder here.
Here's why I always keep it on hand:
- It supports health immune function. Elderberry syrup is a well-known folk remedy for cold and flu, and there's evidence that the berries help support the immune system.
- It supports cellular health. Elderberry is rich in anthocyanin, a powerful pigment that you also find in beets and blueberries. It helps combat free radials and support cellular health.
- They're loaded with vitamin C which is a powerful antioxidant that supports your skin and tissues. Keep in mind that research suggests that liposomal vitamin C is the easiest to absorb.
I often make elderberry syrup or elderberry kombucha.
If you're looking for an easier way to take it, Pique just released a new Daily Immune Support that combines elderberry with liposomal vitamin C to maximize absorption.
It's super delicious, too.
Hope you try it,
Jenny McGruther, NTP
