Dietary guidelines poster boasts butter and ice cream as food groups

Collection Highlights From the U.S. Department of Agriculture Poster Collection housed in NAL's Special Collections With the release of new dietary food guidelines in December, it's interesting to consider how the guidelines have evolved over the years. The Basic Seven poster, published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture after the conclusion of World War II (1946), shows guidelines used prior to the food guide pyramid of the 1990s and the MyPlate model of 2015-2020.
