Konnichiwa! Have you checked out the newly designed Chopstick Chronicles site yet? If you have, you may have seen a new page where you can discover many handy Japanese kitchen gadgets and pantry items. Japanese kitchen tools are known for their durability and functionality and I'm often asked what my recommendations are. So I've put everything all in one place to make it easy to find everything you need for cooking authentic Japanese food at home! You'll find sharp knives, specialised frying pans, traditional rice cookers, and staple pantry items like mirin and kombu. And now is the best time if you're looking to purchase anything because Amazon Prime Day is coming up (July 16-17) so you could get all the quality Japanese kitchen items you need for a discounted price so get your cart ready! Head to Chopstick Chronicles and click the Kitchen Tools page at the top of the site to find everything! (And just to be transparent, this is not an ad but I do make an affiliate commission for anything purchased through my page but I don't put anything there that I don't love and use myself).
Tsukemen is a popular Japanese noodle dish that's essentially a deconstructed bowl of ramen. The ramen noodles are served cold alongside a separate bowl of hot, thick, and flavourful broth. You then dip the noodles into the broth to pick up the delicious sauce and enjoy!
I made a sesame sauce for this recipe which adds a tasty roasted nutty flavour. Feel free to add chilli oil or chilli flakes to add some spice or even get creative and make your own sauce!
Yomogi dango, a traditional Japanese sweet treat, combines the earthy flavor of yomogi (Japanese mugwort) with the sweetness of glutinous rice. This delicious dessert has a similar chewy and soft texture to mochi but is made from the rice flour rather than the grains and is made into little bite size pieces. You can eat it on its own but adding azuki beans and kinako (roasted soybean powder) makes it even better!
My name is Shihoko. I moved to Australia many years ago from Japan and I missed the food so much that I decided to create my favourite recipes at home and share them with you too.
