A Friday dispatch with tips and tools to help you keep your cooking zones fresh and clean (enough, anyway). |
Grill Brushes That Won't Send You To the ER This Summer |
Here are two truths and a lie about cleaning your grill. And because I'm so serious about safety, I won't even make you guess which is the lie. - You should clean your grill between every use (truth)
- You should deep clean your grill after a season of heavy use (truth)
- You should always clean your grill with a wire brush (LIE!)
Wire brushes may be the most popular tool for cleaning grimy grates, but they're also the most dangerous. That's because brass and steel bristles can break loose from the brush head, get stuck in the residue that remains on the grill, and eventually end up in someone's food, leading to throat or abdominal injuries. To avoid sending someone to the ER this summer, stash that spiky wire brush out of sight until your next deep clean and use one of these safer alternatives for your in-between cleans instead.
