The series will be complemented by a series of advocacy and policy briefs, the first of which will be available here. The research complements WHO global guidelines to support women and newborns in the first six weeks after birth. Alongside a commentary, papers explore factors that influence the uptake of this care and the experiences of women, families and health workers. The postnatal period is a critical time for ensuring newborn and maternal survival, alongside supporting the healthy development of the baby and the mother’s mental and physical recovery and well-being.
