πŸ₯Ά Let’s Talk About Freezer Meals

Hey there!reader!

Today I want to talk about freezer meals! Most of the time, when we think about meal prep, it's taking time on Sunday to make some meals and snacks for the week - I call that weekly meal prep.

But, the real hero for busy moms is stocking the freezer with healthy ready-to-cook or-eat meals - I call this freezer meals or freezer cooking.

By combining meal prep and freezer cooking, you'll always have healthy homemade foods ready to eat during the busy work week.

Freezer meals were a huge game changer when I started my weight loss journey in 2010. I often say that I wouldn't have stuck to eating healthy without homemade food in the freezer. Nope, it's easier to order a pizza.

Taking the time to cook freezer meals (when I had the time) assured me that healthy meals and snacks were ready to eat during busy times (when I couldn't cook). This made all the difference.

I quickly learned that freezer meals did so much more than help me lose weight. Freezer meals gave me control over my week, reduced my stress, and made me happier. Who knew freezer meals could do all that? Well, they do.

Another reason I love to freezer cook is that it significantly reduces the time I need to spend on weekly meal prep. For example, if I have dinners in the freezer, I only need to prepare breakfast and lunch for the week. This was a huge sanity savor when I worked outside the home - and still today while working at home.

There are many different freezer cooking methods available.

πŸ‘‰ You can make double batches of recipes and stick extras in the freezer. It takes a little more time to get a stock freezer, but it is a good way for a beginner to tip in their toe. I also use this method when stocking my freezer with ingredients (leftover chicken stock, tomato paste, etc.)

πŸ‘‰ Bi-weekly, stock your freezer with meals for the following two weeks.

πŸ‘‰ Batch cook once every month or so to stock your freezer for 4-6 weeks at a time.

I do a little of every method, but my favorite way to freezer cook is to block out a weekend to get meals in the freezer for the month. That way, I only need to think about cooking once a month.

These are my favorite freezer cooking containers.

My favorite tool for freezer cooking is Souper Cubes - you might have heard of them.

Souper Cubes are silicone freezer trays that come in a variety of sizes. I use the 1-cup tray and 2-cup tray the most, but I also love the 2-tablespoon ones for freezer tomato paste, pesto, and things like that.

Here is how they work:

Step 1: Fill them up with the food or recipe

Step 2: Place the lid on and stick it in the freezer

Step 3: After the food is frozen, pop out the bricks, place them into a labeled freezer bag, and stick them back into the freezer.

Using Souper Cubes is an excellent way to reduce waste and save space in your freezer. They are an investment, but I feel they are worth it.

Other Freezer Prep Containers I Use:

✅ Glass containers - you can see all of my favorite glass containers here.

✅ Plastic and reusable freezer bags

You'll find freezer containers that you like best as you begin to freezer cook. Like me, you'll likely have a favorite, but also use a mix.

Over the next few weeks, I will share more freezer cooking "how-to" information and recipes - I'll also give tips on the containers I think would work best for each recipe.

If you have any questions, reply and let me know.

Talk to you soon.
