Hi friends,
Today, many people in Minnesota (where I live) are participating in a statewide day of non-violent moral action and reflection in response to the ICE presence in Minneapolis and its acceleration and escalation of violence. This is an important moment for our state.
For many families here in our community, there is a lot of deep anxiety and uncertainty right now. There are concerns not only about physical safety, but also about how people can access basic needs, like food and family care, for those who don't feel safe leaving their homes.
The heart of Pinch of Yum is helping families put food on the table. Normally, that means sharing recipes online; today, it means something different.
Yesterday, on behalf of this site and this community, we dropped off a food donation at Dios Habla Hoy, which is a Minneapolis church that is working to serve the 25,000 families here in the Twin Cities who have signed up to receive meals.
We also made a donation on behalf of this community to Second Harvest Heartland (one of the largest hunger-relief organizations in Minnesota) and to Twin Cities Food Justice.
If you're interested in supporting any of these organizations, you can find the donation pages here:
And if you're looking for a little bit of encouragement, know that many families in Minnesota are showing up in their schools, churches, and communities to support each other. I'm seeing it play out in real life every day. It makes me emotional to think about it. We care about each other, and there is a lot of good happening inside this really difficult moment.
Take good care of yourself. Be good to the people around you.
I love you guys.
