I can't believe I used to do this!
I'd make up my mind to go on a "diet" and be as strict with myself as possible, as I thought that's what it took.
I would plan my meals for the day to be around (or below!) 800-900 calories AND super low carbohydrates - counting everything. UGH!
I thought carbohydrates were my own personal devil (they actually are not)!
I would be really "good" about it for a few days, sometimes even 10 days or so.
(Gosh, maybe even 2 weeks)
Then something would happen…
I would suddenly feel ravenous!
Like, imagine pulling up into a drive-thru and ordering everything you want, eating until you're completely sick, then shamefully hiding the evidence.
It felt yuck to say the least…
Or, a 10 PM craving would hit hard...
So I would pop a few chocolate chips in my mouth, then a few more...
Then I'd start stuffing peanut butter along with the chocolate into my mouth...
That would eventually get to a point where I was eating chips and my second bowl of sugary cereal!
And THAT would typically be the end of that "diet" cycle for me.
I just became so hungry and exhausted… Not to mention, I’d beat myself up:
“Rachel, you suck, you did it again!”
I'd give up at that point for a while... Gaining back every ounce that I had previously starved myself to "lose", and often it came with a bit more interest added on top.
The moral of the story:
UNDEREATING ALWAYS BACKFIRES!!!
Now, fast forward 13 years to today:
I haven't "binged" or overly indulged on anything in YEARS…
I can't remember the last time this happened as I simply enjoy small treats when I want them.
I haven't counted calories or points or anything either!
I eat A LOT of complex carbs and healthy fats — they keep me so happy, clear-headed, and balanced.
Protein throughout the day is my BFF.
The results?
All of my clothing has fit nicely for many, many years, with absolutely no "fat pants" entering the mix.
I do NOT obsess over food or worry that if I take a few bites of cheesecake after a special dinner, then we’re going to become enemies.
Food and I are very dear friends!
I eat A LOT throughout the day - every day.
You see, slow and steady wins the race... But we are human and want everything NOW!
It can be so hard to wait.
Consistency and patience are NOT sexy.
But they are the most important skills to develop in any area of life.
Just like my own past "diet" follies, I get a lot of clients who were put on starvation diets, lost a lot of weight fast due to sheer motivation at the beginning, and then gained it all back
very fast after their body and hormones took over from pure exhaustion, hunger, and lack of nutrients.
(And they brought along a few extra lbs just for fun)
Slow, steady, and healthy new daily habits ALWAYS win here because it's maintainable.
Understanding HOW to balance meals and reprogramming our brains to be friendly with food takes practice.
A healthy mindset is crucial.
(Kind of a fun win here - you end up with a very healthy mindset during the process).
I'm almost certain that you have your own "diet" story... parts make you laugh, and parts bring you to painful tears.
We have successfully coached people for over 12 years through our Challenge programs...
Sharing HOW, and WHY we eat LOTS of nutritious foods, drink LOTS of water, and REQUIRE a PLAN, accountability, and a COMMUNITY of people with similar stories...
All parts of the process when creating a NEW story and lifestyle for yourselves.

"Although I’d been watching Rachel and CleanFoodCrush on Facebook for a while, I finally signed up for my First 30-Day Challenge at the beginning of November.
And wow! I am so glad I did! I seriously thought the “before and after” photos I was seeing online couldn’t be 30-day changes — surely they were achieved over many months! But now I look at my own and see what can be accomplished.
I’ve lost just over 17 pounds between November 1st and November 30th." - Susan
