Prison Drones, Kamala Campaigns, and Georgians Kick Back

Article Icon 1 Drones Drop Guns, Drugs into Prisons

Drones are increasingly used to deliver contraband like drugs and weapons into state prisons, a state Senate panel was told this week.

Department of Corrections Director Tyrone Oliver told legislators this included a case where a drone delivered the gun used in a murder-suicide at Smith State Prison.

The Senate panel is tasked with making recommendations to deal with troubles arising from overcrowded and outdated detention facilities.

During the past year, the Georgia corrections department arrested 69 staff members, 204 inmates, and 554 civilians and tallied over 430 reports of drones.

Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz finished their campaign swing through Georgia on Thursday, culminating with a solo rally by Harris Thursday night at Enmarket Arena in Savannah.

Recent polls in the battleground state of Georgia show Harris essentially tied with former President Donald Trump, with results within the margin of error either way.

Thursday's campaigning also saw Harris and Walz sit down with CNN's Dana Bash for their first formal interview since the Democratic convention.
