๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฅค The Best Way to Start Adding Greens to Your Smoothie! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿฅฌ

Hey there reader!

I've been sipping on green smoothies for over 10 years now, so throwing in a handful of greens like spinach, kale, or chard is like second nature to me. But you know what?

๐Ÿ“ช The other day, I received an email from a reader who was curious about how to pick the best greens for their smoothie and how much to add.

It dawned on me that many folks are just starting their smoothie journey and might need a little guidance on blending a delicious smoothie with some greens.

So, I'm here to help you out with some tips! ๐ŸŒŸ

Let's kick things off with the greens themselves, shall we?

๐ŸŒฑ If you're new to this green smoothie game, I highly recommend starting with baby spinach. It's got the mildest flavor, so it's a great way to ease into the green goodness. ๐Ÿƒ

๐Ÿฅฌ Regular spinach, on the other hand, has a bit of an earthy taste. Don't forget to remove the leaf from the rib if you go for this option.

๐Ÿ’ช Now, kale is a total powerhouse! It's stronger in flavor compared to spinach, but if you manage to find baby kale, it'll be a bit milder.

๐ŸŒˆ Chard isn't something I've experimented with a lot, but sometimes I snag a super greens mix from Wegmans that includes chard, baby spinach, and kale. Gotta love those leafy greens combos! ๐Ÿฅ—

Now, let's chat about the amount of greens you should add.

๐ŸŒฑ When you're just starting out, aim for about ½ cup to 1 cup of loosely packed greens. Once you get used to the flavor, you can go ahead and add more if you're feeling adventurous.

But hey, keep in mind that the flavor of your smoothie also depends on the other ingredients you toss in. If you're going for a fruitier blend, your smoothie will taste fruitier! ๐Ÿ“๐ŸŒ

Oh, and let's not forget about the smoothie's color!

Mixing greens with blueberries or other dark berries will give you a deeper, sometimes brownish hue.

On the flip side, using lighter fruits like pineapple or mango will result in a more vibrant green color—though it might turn a bit brown too. Don't worry, it may not look as pretty, but the flavor is still on point!

Adding greens to your smoothie is an excellent way to boost its nutritional value and sneak in some extra veggies.
