Gov. Brian Kemp headlined a fundraiser for Donald Trump's reelection on Thursday in Atlanta, as the governor works to consolidate the GOP base in Georgia.

Kemp's role in the fundraiser comes as Trump and the governor rebuild a relationship that frayed during disputes over the 2020 election.

Trump acknowledged Kemp's contributions on social media last week, thanking him for his support. This public reconciliation comes as polls show the presidential race virtually tied in Georgia.

Georgia lawmakers held a hearing Tuesday as they explore banning transgender women from women's sports.

Five former college swimmers, who are currently suing the NCAA and Georgia Tech over a transgender woman's participation in a 2022 championship, testified.

Former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines argued that competing against transgender athletes like Lia Thomas, who was born a man, degrades the integrity of women's sports. Gaines and Thomas tied in the NCAA women’s 500-yard freestyle 2022 championship.

Lt. Gov. Burt Jones is advocating for further legislation beyond the 2022 law that allowed the Georgia High School Association to regulate transgender participation.

Georgia, along with fifteen other states, has joined a lawsuit to halt a program designed to protect illegal immigrants married to U.S. citizens from deportation, as well as offering them a pathway to citizenship.

A federal judge in Texas on Monday issued a temporary stay against the program following the states filing suit.

The lawsuit asserts that the Department of Homeland Security violated long-standing federal law by allowing those who entered the U.S. unlawfully to obtain immigration benefits without leaving the country.

The suit claims the program will financially harm the participating states.
