Good morning! On this day in 1861, Union troops launched an assault on two Hatteras Island forts, leading to control over Hatteras Inlet—and the Union’s first Civil War victory. President Abraham Lincoln allegedly danced a jig in his nightshirt upon receiving the news.

300+ Charges Made in Home Invasion Spree

More than 300 charges have been made in connection to a string of home invasions across Davidson, Yadkin, Davie, Stokes, Forsyth, Rowan, and Rockingham counties.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office arrested five suspects believed to be involved. Davidson detectives started investigating the crimes in December 2023 after precious metals, jewelry, coins, cash, and firearms were reported stolen.

The Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office has filed 61 felonies and 20 misdemeanors related to the cases, with two individuals in custody and a third charged.

The U.S. Marshal service is also involved in the investigation.

NC College Football Kicks Off Thursday

College football kicks off for five North Carolina schools Thursday, and one more Friday.

Thursday matchups include Western Carolina at North Carolina State University in Raleigh at 7 p.m., North Carolina A&T at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem at 7 p.m., and North Carolina at Minnesota in Minneapolis at 8 p.m.

Elon is at Duke in Durham Friday at 7:30 p.m. None of North Carolina’s ACC teams play Saturday or Monday.

Only NCSU is currently ranked—24th in the AP Poll and 22nd in the Coaches Poll.

New List Reveals NC’s Prettiest Towns

Travel website WorldAtlas released a list of North Carolina’s 10 prettiest towns. The list focuses on towns representing “a blend of historic communities, forested retreats, and tranquil fishing villages.”

Beaufort topped the list thanks to its historic homes and fishing village steeped in pirate lore. Next was Blowing Rock in western North Carolina, which claims the state’s unique Blowing Rock attraction and adventurous hiking trails.
