This provides a strategic opportunity to advocate for essential maternity rights that support breastfeeding. WHO recommends paid maternity leave for a minimum of 18 weeks, ideally more than 6 months, and workplace accommodations, including paid time off for breastfeeding, after this point.
Monday, 31 July Launch of Global Tobacco Report Under embargo until Monday, 31 July 2023, 12:30 p.m. CEST The ninth WHO report on the global tobacco epidemic tracks countries' progress on tobacco control. This year's report includes a special focus on smoke-free spaces. It showcases global statistics on every country's tobacco policies and will announce two new countries that have reached the highest level of tobacco control with eight countries just one policy away. It also shows how many governments are protecting people from second-hand smoke by banning smoking in all public spaces and transit systems, workplaces, restaurants and healthcare settings. Wednesday August 2, 2023 Managing Dengue: a rapidly expanding epidemic - WHO EPI-WIN Webinar TIME: 13:00–14:00 CEST (Geneva time) Dengue (also known as bone-break fever) is a viral infection caused by the dengue virus (DENV), transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. The incidence of dengue has grown dramatically around the world in recent decades. Dengue is endemic in more than 100 countries in the WHO Regions of Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, South-East Asia and the Western Pacific. Dengue is spreading to new areas, including Europe, and explosive outbreaks are occurring. About half of the world's population is now at risk of dengue with an estimated 100–400 million infections occurring each year. This webinar will give an overview of the current situation across the world and the speakers will discuss the latest evidence on managing Dengue successfully.
