The Best Wireless Meat Thermometers |
The first time I stuck a wireless thermometer probe into a piece of meat and closed the lid of my smoker, my internal monologue was basically just a Staples Easy Button. After using the nice, but slightly unwieldy wired probes that come as part of the package with most nice pellet grills or a range of other new "smart" grill products, the free floating probes in the new class of bluetooth meat thermometers were a revelation. The probes are smaller than a pencil and connect to an app on your phone, a standalone display, or sometimes both, to make for a convenient grill tool that even purists who frown on too much tech in grilling should be able to get behind. Our top pick from our recent new test of wireless thermometers even has eight(!) sensors to measure the temperature at various places within a thick cut of meat. The coolest feature that is built into some of these thermometers, though, is their ability to predict when a cook will finish. Admittedly this is a feature that works better with things like chickens and turkeys than, say, a pork shoulder, because there is so much fat to render out in the latter it's hard for the thermometer to get a good read on how quickly it's cooking, but in testing with chicken it nailed the total cook time. If you're looking to add some more precision to your grilling (or your oven roasting, really) these thermometers will bring it.
