COVID-19 Peacetime Emergency Ends

Yesterday, the Minnesota Legislature passed a bill to end the peacetime emergency effective 11:59 p.m. on July 1, 2021. Executive Orders, business restrictions, and Stay Safe requirements are ending.

Minnesota's peacetime emergency gave the state the tools necessary to quickly establish, staff, and operate state vaccination sites and acquire supplies and technology to support the vaccine effort. It also supported the expansion Minnesota's testing capacity and many other efforts to keep all Minnesotans safe throughout the pandemic.

It's important to continue to follow the updated COVID-19 guidance and recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Health found at Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). For a full list of updated guidance and webpages, refer to the Guidance and Resources section below.

Travel Voucher Vaccine Incentive

Minnesotans who get their shot between July 1 and August 7 at MSP Airport's Terminal 2 will be entered into a weekly drawing for a $500 travel voucher through Sun Country Airlines. Minnesotans must be 18 or over to receive the shot and enter for a chance to win. This opportunity is open to the general public. No boarding pass or appointment are required.

The Terminal 2 vaccination pop-up is located at 7150 Humphrey Drive and is open every day from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is being administered at Terminal 2. One-hour parking vouchers are available for the purpose of vaccination.

A new winner will be announced weekly for five consecutive weeks. Undrawn entries do not rollover into subsequent weeks. Learn more at Governor Walz Announces "Safe Travels, Minnesota" Vaccine Incentive with Sun Country Airlines at MSP Terminal 2 Pop-Up Location.

What's New

COVID-19 Testing Recommendations

Vaccination and other measures have been effective at stopping the spread of COVID-19, but testing remains a key prevention tool, especially for people who are not fully vaccinated. People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna, or two weeks after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

MDH has updated guidance for who should get tested and when. Here are some key points from that guidance.

  • People who are not fully vaccinated should get tested if they are in contact with someone who has COVID-19.
  • People who are not fully vaccinated should also get tested every two weeks if they have frequent contact with people outside their household, or if they participate in activities where social distancing may not be possible.
  • People who are not fully vaccinated should get tested after travel within the U.S.
  • Vaccinated or not, anyone who travels internationally should get tested upon returning to Minnesota.

COVID-19 testing is free. To find no-barrier community testing sites, visit COVID-19 Community Testing Sites. If you need special accommodations or have accessibility needs, contact the COVID-19 hotline: 1-833-431-2053.
