🌱Korean Vegetables to Grow + 🐷Samgyeopsal Day!

Image 1

Hi There!

Spring is almost officially here! I'm not only excited for nicer weather but also to begin gardening again! I know that it's difficult for some of you to find certain Korean vegetables and herbs in your area but there are quite a few that are actually easy to grow yourself at home. Below is a post with information on how to grow and harvest various Korean vegetables and herbs, dishes to use them in and where to purchase seeds!

Also, March 1st is 삼일절. On 3/1/1949,  Korean students protested calling for independence from Japan as Korea was occupied by Japan at that time. This protest was unsuccessful in itself but was a catalyst for the Korean Independence Movement which spread throughout the whole country.

And then, did you know that March 3rd is Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly) Day in Korea? "Samgyeopsal 삼겹살" means three layered flesh so it's pretty fitting that it's celebrated on the 3rd day of the 3rd month! On this day, sales of pork belly in Korea skyrocket by three to four times it's normal amount. Celebrate at home by making one of my popular pork belly recipes below!

Take care and stay healthy everyone!

Hwajeon is a fresh flower sweet rice pancake that is traditionally made using flower blossoms that are in season. This dessert goes all the way back to the Koryo Dynasty and is best enjoyed with tea and some honey for dipping!

Bukkumi is one of my favorite desserts! These sweet rice dumplings are filled with sweet red bean paste and pan-fried in oil to create a crispy outside but chewy inside.
