In lieu of food photos this week, I thought I'd share a few recent life headlines from around these parts:
We got a new kitchen sink!
You may remember that we experienced a tragic event related to my husband's famous clean dish towers. Our cast iron Dutch oven was on the top of the pile (my husband's fault) and it was bumped, causing it to suddenly come crashing down (my fault), cracking our beautiful fireclay farmhouse sink beyond repair.
After months and months of tracking down a replacement plus someone willing to risk cracking our counters to install it, success! I got a metal grid for the bottom to prevent future mishaps. And clean dish towers have officially been banned.
I tried tomatoes!
In the latest installment of my "Picky Eater Project" Instagram series, I tried a plain tomato for the first time. The results were...mixed. My face below tells part of the story. Watch it here.
I got a job!
I got a part-time job in communications. I'm not sharing this broadly or the details of where I'm working (thanks a lot, internet weirdos). But I can say that my new role involves writing (and not about nutrition), and I love having coworkers for the first time in a million years.
The rest of the week, I'm still doing my regular Real Mom Nutrition thing. In short, I'm not going away yet!

Sunday: Instant Pot Pot Roast w/ carrots + garden potatoes (FYI if you make this: I cooked the potatoes separately because I think they taste weird when they're cooked with pot roast)
Read: Stone Blind. Medusa's origin story, reimagined. I recommend listening to this one--I got the CDs from the library and listened in the car. The author reads it, and her voice is perfection.
Watch: "Too Much" on Netflix. If you were a fan of the HBO show Girls, you'll probably like this very quirky, definitely TV-MA rated, and ultimately sweet show starring Hacks scene-stealer Megan Stalter.
Try: Is your hanging flower basket a leggy hot mess? Here's a trick I do every summer: Give it a major haircut (I only leave 3-4 inches of stems). Then fill a large bucket or barrel with water and soak the basket for a few hours (or forget about it overnight like me), then take it out and add some fertilizer on top (I use compost). It will look terrible for a few weeks, then grow back full and beautiful.
Wear: I'd heard tale of these sweatpant jeans. And because I'm not made of money, I found a used pair on eBay. They truly do look like jeans and feel like sweatpants, and I'm waiting for it to not be a thousand degrees so I can wear them.
Follow: Baked By The Lake on Instagram. She's a home baker in Canada, and I love her no-frills videos and the fact that her kitchen doesn't look ripped from a home decorating magazine. Refreshing.
💛 Thanks so much for being here!
