Reminder: installing blind spot information systems (BSIS)

DVSA is reminding drivers that Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) driving in London must check to see if they require a Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) fitted.

What's changed?

Transport for London has introduced new standards to protect vulnerable road users when turning left.

Newer vehicles will have these added automatically. Older models will need to have them retrofitted.

What do I have to do?

If you operate a vehicle where this has already been installed, you will need to ensure the module is operating normally.

If you operate an older vehicle where this was not installed, a BSIS will need to be retrofitted.

GOV.UK has more information on how to fit these to different vehicles, including:

  • Rigid HGVs where the body forms the sideguard area
  • Rigid HGVs where rails make up the sideguard
  • Tractor (artic) units
  • HGVs with additional protection panels added to sideguards
