Heat Wave Peaks, Cooldown Coming

Our state is sweating through its hottest stretch of the year, with heat indexes soaring past 110 degrees across West and Middle Tennessee, though cooler days are on the way.

Memphis and Nashville are under heat alerts through Wednesday, with the National Weather Service issuing its first Excessive Heat Warning of 2025 for parts of Middle Tennessee.

Relief arrives Thursday as a cold front brings scattered showers. Highs will drop into the mid-80s by the weekend. It won't be fall yet, but summer is finally loosening its grip—though August still looms.

Underground Tunnel to Link BNA, Downtown

Elon Musk's Boring Company is teaming up with Tennessee officials to build the Music City Loop, an underground tunnel connecting Nashville International Airport to downtown.

The privately funded project, announced Monday, aims to reduce congestion and offer a faster, electric-vehicle-only route along Murfreesboro Pike.

Officials say the first segment could open by fall 2026, pending approvals.

State leaders praised the project as a bold fix for Nashville's long-standing transit woes.

Rep. Burchett Kicked by Horse, Breaks Rib

U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett is recovering after being kicked by a horse on his farm over the weekend, resulting in a broken rib and bruising.

Despite the injury, the 60-year-old congressman hasn't altered his schedule and has continued to attend district events, including a Monday speech in Maury County.

Burchett told reporters the incident "wasn't the horse's fault," noting that after receiving treatment, he was discharged from the hospital the same day.
