Sounds like we're talking about chardonnay, doesn't it?! But no, these are glorious pine nuts from Lebanon ... so big, so buttery, it's safe to say you won't find finer anywhere in the world. The photo here compares them to what we find at the grocery or Costco. Those are generally imported from China, are tiny, and often have a bitter, metallic taste.
Can we talk about the price for a minute? These little golden nuggets feel like they cost as much as real gold! We've gone over it and over it about whether or not to offer them when they are available. The answer is always clearly yes, and I'll quickly explain why.
First, the quality. They are incredibly fresh and clean in flavor. They honor our cooking.
Second, when we buy these, we support Lebanese farmers.
Third, you love them as much as we do! When the pine nuts are sold out, I hear from you asking where the heck are they? My sister-in-law Diane appreciates all things beautiful in food (and makes killer kibbeh), and she pines after these "gorgeous" nuts for all celebrations. When she asked if we'd have them for Easter, I was so happy to say YES! They're here!
Take care to keep a close eye when butter-toasting these beauties. I recently burned a batch, and boy did that hurt. No multi-tasking ever, ever again forever more!
