New research from Ocean Florida (surveying 2,000 Brits via OnePoll) has revealed the travel snaps we now find the most cringe-worthy – and in a plot twist, the once-iconic 'hot-dog legs' beach photo has been voted the most annoying holiday pic of all time! A massive 95% of Brits have declared it outdated for good.
But it's not the only travel cliché that's had its day. Former favourites like pre-flight prosecco, staged aeroplane selfies, and poolside cocktail shots have all made the list of holiday photos we'd rather never see again.
The End of an Era: Travel Photos Brits Can't Stand Anymore
It's official – the hot-dog legs beach snap is over. Once a staple of every sun-soaked getaway, this infamous shot – where tanned legs resemble sausages on a sun lounger – has fallen out of favour in a big way.
And it's not alone. Ocean Florida's study has uncovered the seven most annoying holiday photos, so if you're guilty of posting these, you might want to rethink your next Instagram upload...
The 7 Most Annoying Holiday Photos – Ranked

- Hot-dog legs – The internet has officially lost its appetite for this one (95%)
- In-flight selfie – Staged aeroplane glamour isn't taking off anymore (94%)
- Plane steps pose – That pre-flight strut? Not a vibe (94%)
- Flight cheers – Pint beside your passport at the airport? Hard pass. (93%)
- Mirror selfie in a hotel room – Holiday outfits? Better captured in action (92%)
- Waves at your feet – No longer making a splash (88%)
- Cocktail by the pool – Not as refreshing as it once was (84%)
Social Media Is Still Shaping Travel – But in a New Way
Ocean Florida's research highlights a shift in the way we document our travels. While social media still plays a huge role in inspiring our trips, today's travellers are ditching the clichés in favour of more authentic, visually striking content.
Nearly 1 in 5 Brits (19%) admit they've booked a trip after seeing a destination on their feed.
78% say the best travel photos feature iconic landmarks, breathtaking scenery, or candid city moments.
Ocean Florida's Take: What Works Now
"Social media is a powerful tool for travel inspiration, but our research shows that people engage more with photos that tell a story," says Natalie Sexton, Head of Marketing at Ocean Florida.
"Beautiful landscapes, famous landmarks, and spontaneous experiences bring a destination to life. At Ocean Florida, we curate trips to some of the most photogenic places in the world – from the dazzling lights of Las Vegas to the skyline of New York and the scenic trails of Florida's national parks. We help travellers create moments worth capturing."
