4-5 March Transforming health systems in the face of climate changeAlliance Global MeetingGlobal health leaders are convening for the first in-person meeting to advance commitments made at COP26, COP27 and COP28 aiming to bolster climate-resilient health systems and decrease the contribution health system’s make to global greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change is already impacting the health of populations worldwide and the capacity of health systems to react to climate-related shocks and stresses. Furthermore, health systems contribute 5% of global emissions. This means that climate change needs to be included in basic health systems functions, such as surveillance, technologies, delivery, financing, and most importantly, with the health workforce. This also means, the health sector has a responsibility to urgently reduce its emissions and environmental impact for a healthier future. The Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH), bringing together over 80 WHO member states and partners (including technical and implementer partners, bilateral donors, civil society organization and financial institutions) seeks to ensure countries are equipped to ensure action is implemented towards building climate resilient and low carbon sustainable health systems. The first ATACH face to face meeting will be co-convened by the Spanish Ministry of Health, the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECID), the UK Commonwealth and Development Office, WHO and hosted at the Spanish Ministry of Health. Over 270 participants will attend the meeting and support shape the priorities of this collective platform towards increased climate change and health action at country level.
