Good morning to my favorite person! Yep, YOU! I LOVE how you check out this newsletter with hopes for new recipes, cooking techniques, ideas for what you might fix for dinner this weekend, a few positive thoughts and always a thank you for just being you! This week at Loaves and Dishes, we did so much stuff and can't cover it all here, but my new most favorite thing to do is think about kitchen remodels. Any ideas to share? I'd love to hear your ideas. Anyway, food. food. We are here to talk about food. The other day I sent you some recipes to consider for Easter Dinner. But what if it is just you or you and one other person? What's something different, a little bit elegant and maybe affordable. Maybe Frozen Shrimp? Here's a great recipe for that. Apple Pie made with store bought, but made better with some additions, Apple Pie with Apple Pie filling? That's affordable and easy! Some grilled smoked sausage? It's terrific with that Sauerkraut and more affordable than most meals. Thin pork chops? They are delicious and this one has an asian sauce that really works! I often see this cut on Managers Special (marked down for quick sale) and if you aren't ready to eat them, just put them in a freezer safe zip lock style bag and put them in the freezer. They'll be fine until you are ready to enjoy them! Vindaloo Carrots for Easter? Affordable and frankly DELICIOUS! Here' is a whole ARTICLE I updated this morning about Easter Ideas for 2024, and now, I'm hungry. Well, that's just how it goes. _______________________________ HOT COOKING TIP OF THE WEEK I know some of you are having guests over for dinner this weekend. Maybe you are a new host? This isn't so much a cooking tip as a hosting tip. But these things affect your cooking because you want to have a relaxed and fun time with your friends and family. When you have a get together planned, at the VERY beginning of your prep (a day or so before). Go ahead and get your dinnerware together (you don't have to set the table, although you could) but maybe set the plates, glasses, sliver-ware, serving pieces, napkins etc. all in one safe place. Threaten the rest of the family if they move or touch them (that's what I do). Put the table cloth on. Plan your center piece if you can't go ahead and put it together. Put extra toilet paper in the bathroom. Set out extra hand towels in the bathroom. Empty the bathroom trash. Make sure you've got a plan for where people can put there things (coats, purses, etc.). The morning of the event, set the table, check the bathrooms, empty the kitchen trash. Make sure the stove top is cleaned off before you start and then try to wipe up as you make spills. Sweep the kitchen including the toe kick area under the cabinets. This will free you up to get your cooking done in a relaxed way without visitors showing up and saying "where can I put my coat" or someone saying, "the toilet paper is out, where can I find some more" just as you are trying to get something on the table. _________________________________ THREE LITTLE THINGS I'm trying to be more thankful for the small things in life to remind me to be thankful for the big things too. Perhaps me saying so here will remind you too. - So thankful for my family who comes over on Tuesday for dinner every week. This week we ate like kings and loved being together. What a blessing.
- Grateful for the birds singing outside my bedroom window this morning. What a happy sound.
- Thankful for my little grandson and his new baby chicks, one he named Chickorella. A lot of laughs from that.
________________________________ A FINAL WORD Perhaps I'm not the worlds best "influencer". I almost never tell you about what's going on in the Loaves and Dishes Social Media world and ... well,... why? Because I am not that into it. However, with recent changes, I am getting more into it, I have to. I'd love it if you would visit Loaves and Dishes over on our Instagram Page (please follow, share and comment if you can - those things all really help me), I'm trying to make that the spot where I share lots of tips and tricks so that your cooking will be AWESOME! (and positive messages, because we all need a little uplift). I've recently gotten back on Twitter (now called X) and if anyone has any pointers as to how to work in that world, I'm all ears. It's so foreign to me. I spend more time on my own personal Facebook page and I welcome you to "friend" me there too. If you do, be forewarned, it's almost ZERO food and all dogs, cats, baby goats, talking birds, funny memes, etc. Because if I'm wasting time, that's what I'm looking at and sharing. But I'd love to be your friend. Anyway, I love you so much, I value our friendship, I think the WORLD of you and can't wait to hear what's happening in your world. Feel free to pen me a reply, just click "reply" to this email, your response will come straight to my inbox, no one else will see it. I'll write you back as quickly as I can. (Please forgive any misspelled responses, sometimes I don't have my glasses on and I reply via my cell phone and although I check it and think I have it right, without glasses, these eyeballs are tricky! Love you and I'll see you soon in your inbox! And for those of you celebrating this holy week, God Bless You, Hallelujah, for we have a lot to rejoice about. Wendi Jo |
