Arabic Translation of the Soil Survey Manual is Available Online The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is pleased to announce the Arabic translation of the 2017 Soil Survey Manual. The Soil Survey Manual provides the major principles and practices needed for making and using soil surveys and for assembling and using related data. Dr. Mahmoud Khairy Mohamed Mahmoud from the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of Egypt translated the Soil Survey Manual to Arabic, with technical and translation assistance from Dr. Nour Aldossari of the University of Minnesota. "The Soil Survey Manual is an international reference document," said David Hoover, Director of the NRCS National Soil Survey Center. "Because the Manual describes all facets of the soil survey process, it is an important guide for developing proposals to conduct soil surveys and to create detailed plans for projects in other parts of the world." NRCS is committed to providing meaningful access to its programs and services to people who, as a result of national origin, are limited in English proficiency. The Soil and Plant Science Division is partnering with the USDA Limited English Proficiency Services to translate more soil science documents. "We are moving into a new era of multilingual versions of our technical documents to ensure that all new publications reach a wider scientific audience," said Hoover. To order a copy of the Soil Survey Manual, visit the NRCS Distribution Center ordering website. The Arabic version of the SSM is available at Soil Survey Manual, Arabic Translation | NRCS Soils (usda.gov). |
