This Book Taught Me How to Get Free Houseplants From My Kitchen Scraps Remember at the height of lockdown when regrowing scallions had a real moment? This particular viral, collective attempt to pass the time brought on a wave of nostalgia for me. As a teen I was particularly fascinated with the challenge of growing plants from kitchen waste after reading a book called Don't Throw It, Grow It!, which my dad gave me for Christmas one year.
Don't Throw It, Grow It! by Deborah Peterson and Millicent Selsam was originally published in 1977 before getting a colorfully mod reprint and update in 2008. The book features clearly-laid-out directions for growing windowsill plants from 68 different fruits, vegetables, spices, and seeds. Read more about why I love it, and find it (and a few other gardening books I love) linked below.
