Help shape our work

Our CitizenLab service helps you shape the work that we do.

CitizenLab gives you an easy way to get involved with our work and share your ideas and opinions. We use it to bring together groups of people, collect your views, conduct surveys and run quick polls.

What you tell us helps us understand the things that are important to you. We can use what we learn to make our services and information better for everyone.

The things we're working on change all the time. At the moment, projects on CitizenLab include:

Influence how CQC reviews care in local areas

The way that health and social care is provided is changing.

Health and social care organisations are being asked by the government to work in a more joined up way. These changes mean that CQC will have a new job to look at how well services are working together in local areas.

We need your help to decide how we should do this and how we can get it right.

Supported living improvement coalition

The supported living improvement coalition is a group set up by CQC that will be led by people with lived experience, their relatives and representatives. The group will help people share their stories with a range of organisations who can work with them to improve services.

Research: How GP practices use innovative methods to address local health inequalities

CQC and the Yorkshire & Humber Academic Health Science Network have published findings from our research into how GP practices use innovative methods to address local health inequalities.

Tackling inequalities in health and care is central to our new strategy, along with understanding how providers in local systems are working together to improve outcomes for everyone in their area.

We will take what we have learned from this project into our developing regulatory approach. We will also publish an online resource later this year to help GP providers demonstrate their innovation.

This project has been made possible by a grant from the £3.7 million Regulators' Pioneer Fund, launched by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Sir Robert Francis to step down from CQC's board

Sir Robert Francis QC has announced that he will step down from the board of CQC, of which he has been a member since 2014.

He will also retire as Chair of Healthwatch England, leaving both roles in November 2022.

Announcing his retirement, Sir Robert said:

"It has been a privilege to serve on the CQC Board and as chair of Healthwatch England. This unique position has enabled me to raise the issues which really matter to patients, service users and those close to them.

"People who use services must be central to NHS and social care decision-making. Their voice is crucial to understanding what works and how services can be better. Greater attention to listening and acting on public feedback has led to real improvements in policy and practice.

"However, the health and social care system continues to face challenges in meeting demand and in maintaining safety and quality. So listening to people who use services and providing the resources to enable this to happen are ever more important. Not only will this help to prevent tragic failures in care occurring, but it will also result in better support and lives for many people in England."

The Department of Health and Social Care will start the recruitment process for a new CQC board member and Healthwatch Chair shortly.
