Pollinator Response to NRCS Pollinator Practices Thursday, July 22, 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET Mounting evidence of declines in pollinator populations is of growing concern. Conservation efforts to protect native bees and other pollinating insects are essential in maintaining diverse pollinator populations required for effective and sustainable pollination of wild and cultivated plants. USDA incentive-based conservation practices such as establishing diverse flower-rich meadows or hedgerows are examples of common practices producers are interested in implementing with NRCS assistance to support pollinators. However, for some regions, the value of specific plant species to native pollinators and the ability of different plants to establish well and persist in local environmental conditions are not well documented. During this webinar, Anthony Abbate of the Auburn University Bee Lab will highlight the results of a recent assessment of bee response to established and experimental pollinator plantings in Alabama. The CEAP-supported assessment was conducted to determine which native wildflowers recommended by NRCS are the most successful in supporting native bees and to help guide the selection of native plants to optimize the value of pollinator habitat plantings in Alabama. |
