The City of Austin unveiled updated renderings for a proposed "cap-and-stitch" project over I-35, which involves building decks over lowered freeway lanes.

The renderings were presented at a Saturday open house and reflect input from 1,800 residents, with popular amenities including recreational spaces, event areas, and public art.

The project aims to create up to 30 acres of new public space and connect the east and west sides of the city.

Only one section between Cesar Chavez and Fourth Street has secured funding, with completion expected by 2032. The city council could vote on a comprehensive plan for the project in November.

Article Icon 1Tyler Is Best U.S. City For Retirees

Texas is home to five of the top 10 cities in the U.S. for retirees, according to USA Today.

Tyler took the top spot and was praised for its affordable housing, dining and entertainment options, and outdoor activities. In a separate ranking, the publication selected Tyler as the best city in Texas.

Sugar Land (No. 6), Wichita Falls (No. 8), Abilene (No. 9), and McAllen (No. 10) also made the list.

On the other hand, with its severe weather and the high cost of living, California has nine of the 10 worst cities in the U.S. for retirees.
