Hello reader Following on from last week's blackberry flapjacks, I have another seasonal fruity bake for you. I do love this time of year when you're assailed by so much produce, both in the ground and above it. Our fig tree has been prolific this summer. Mostly, the birds get our figs, but this year we bought some special fig bags that let the light in, but stop both the birds and insects getting the ripe figs. We didn't bag everything, so the wildlife got a share, but we've had more figs this year than the entire time we've lived here. The upshot is that as well as eating lots of fresh figs, I've also had plenty to bake with. I do love an upside down cake. They're easy to make, look impressive and always taste good. So it was a no-brainer to try one with figs. And I'm pleased to report my upside-down fig cake worked beautifully. What's your favourite fruit or vegetable at this time of year? And what do you like to cook with it? Popular posts this week include: Keep cooking and stay safe.
