Good morning sweetness! I can't believe it's been about 2 weeks since we chatted! What a couple of weeks it has been too! But that's a "no nevermind", let's just enjoy our cup of coffee (or tea or whatever) and move on to the FOOD! OH boy, have we got some good stuff brewing at Loaves and Dishes! I've been busy making (and eating) this Green Chili Cheesy Bread, its SO delicious! Plus, there's lots of great ways to change it up too! Can't find everything you need at the store, no problem, just make a substitution! Then, in case you need to know, I show you how to use a manual Food Mill (I made watermelon juice in the video) and you can use it for making jams, juices and all kinds of delicious goodies! Need to know how to fry catfish? I'll show you how and give you all the tips for how to find good fresh catfish where you live! Did we already talk about my favorite summer drink? Watermelon Lemonade! Whew weeee!! My friend Mary and I fell in LOVE with it at The Glass Onion in Charleston and I had to figure out how to make it myself. Here's how. Over on YouTube, the favorite recipes of the past couple of weeks has been this Easy Chicken and Rice Casserole and Sarah's secrets for making Boxed Cake Better as well as Easy Cobbler with Canned Peaches. All viral wonders, if you ask me. The Dorks with Sporks traveled to Chicago and we are still spinning through those episodes, which you can find where ever you listen to podcasts. _________________________ HOT COOKING TIP OF THE WEEK This week for my newspaper article I wrote about saving money. Want to know why? I know you already know if you do any grocery shopping at all. Groceries are up higher than a giraffes tail (to quote a good friend of mine). If I am looking at individual items, I just know they are more and I know my total grocery bill is more BUT I can't really tell how much. When shopping for a recent event that I cooked for, I KNEW that my grocery bill was about 30% more than usual when cooking for a crowd of 100. So, there you have it. That's a lot of money. What are you favorite ways to save? Shoot me an email by clicking reply to this newsletter and I'll share the best ones with our social media audiences (and give you credit!). Here's my favorites...
__________________________ THREE LITTLE THINGS I'm trying to be more thankful for the small things here and sharing those so that maybe you'll be reminded too.
___________________________ A FINAL THOUGHT Today as I was looking at the analytics for the website and the YouTube channel, I was a little bit amazed to learn that the audience for the website is mostly older ladies (my age and demographic) but my YouTube channel is mostly 25-35 year old young men. Why is this? I know a few of my YouTube watchers personally and they do fit that demographic. They want "just the facts" and that's what we tend to deliver over there. Plus, they say that both Sarah and my voice is soothing and reminds them of their mother or grandmothers. All good. I don't know how you found me or why you stay but I want to say, "I'm so glad that you do". I've been at this job now for 8 years. That's a lifetime on the internet. I hope to never ever walk away from this interface. I love helping others learn things in the kitchen. I love learning new things myself. I want to thank you for sharing the recipes you find here, telling your friends about Loaves and Dishes, listening to our podcasts and following on social media. YOU mean the whole wide world to me and even when my life has sometimes been absolutely topsy turvy, you have remained steady and constant and I just can't thank you enough. If you know someone who might enjoy this newsletter, the recipes on the website, the videos on YouTube or the podcast, please feel free to forward this on to them. If you need a recipe or help organizing the menu for a party, just drop me an email by clicking "reply" to this newsletter. I'm the only one who will see it. I"m happy to help. Thank you, dear friend. I love you bunches and appreciate you more than you could ever know. Till Next Time, God willing and the creeks don't rise. Love you!
