Good morning love! Feeling sleepy this morning? Need a spot of coffee? Me too! How do you like your coffee? Me, I like mine hot and with plenty of cream and sugar. My grandma Starnes would have called my coffee "white". I can remember that she would order her coffee "white" when she ordered at the diner we sometimes went to. I always thought that was a weird descriptor for coffee but when compared to the way my grandpa Starnes drank his black coffee, I get it. All of that makes me think about beverages in general. Lately I've been really enjoying lemonade (Simply Lemonade in the refrigerated section of the grocery) mixed with a splash of strawberry banana Jumex (from the hispanic section of the grocery). Pour that over plenty of ice and you have what is likely my "drink of summer 2022". I'm thinking it might also turn into a "going to the beach" drink if I added a splash of rum, but I haven't been down that road yet. Speaking of drinks, this peach tea that I wrote about a couple of summers ago is another favorite. So refreshing and delicious. You can spruce it up with basil or rosemary leaves. YUM! If you just aren't sure how to make good southern sweet tea, this is your go to directory right here. Not into sweet tea and just want plain old iced tea? I gotcha. How about fresh squeezed lemonade using real lemons? No problem. If you'll save this recipe until winter, you can get lemons fresh from Florida and make this concentrate! Its easy to make and when it comes to mixing up the lemonade come summer time, easy peasy! Try one of those drinks and I promise, you won't be dissappointed! _________________________ HOT COOKING TIP OF THE WEEK! It's fruit pie time of the year! Oh boy! The peach cobblers, cherry pies and blueberry crumbles are about to come rolling in! I can't wait! But wouldn't you LOVE to spruce yours up a bit? Me too! I'm going to share how to make yours a bit more fancy with almost no trouble at all! For a heartier and merrier pie crust flavor, add 2 tsp of vanilla extract to the pie dough as you are making it and use this in place of 2 tsp of the ice cold water that goes in the crust. Add lavender to the crust! Your friends and family will wonder where that slight hint of lavender flavor is coming from. Grind up a tsp of dried lavender with the sugar and salt for the recipe and then make the pie dough as usual! Try this with blueberry or strawberry pies. Alternatively, add lemon zest and thyme to your crust (1 tsp of each) and mix in with the sugar in the crust. Works great with savory pies. _________________________ THREE LITTLE THINGS I'm trying to be more grateful in my day to day life for the little things. I find that this helps me be more grateful for the bigger things too. It keeps me honest with myself.
_________________________ A FINAL WORD Are strawberries coming into season where you live? Boy they are here and they are delicious! I attended a get together a week ago and one of the ladies brought the most simple and yet delicious dish. She brought fresh strawberries with some goat cheese crumbled (and it melted so you couldn't see it) over the top, chopped basil and balsamic vinegar drizzled over. The flavor. Wow! There is no real recipe just wow. So good. If you want to know how to can strawberry jam, I show you how in this article. I promise, you can do it! If you want to make a fresh strawberry pie with an easy instant make crust, this is your article right here. Go wow your friends!
