Launched at speed soon after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ONS-led COVID-19 Infection Survey has achieved international recognition as a "gold standard" source of vital data. Two years – and around nine million swab tests – later it continues to provide unique insight on infections and antibodies in the general population of the UK. Esther Sutherland reflects on the survey's achievements to date and looks at what's next for the survey.
