All improvements made to data.census.gov are driven by your feedback. We know that reliable access to Census Bureau data is paramount. In the spirit of improving customer experience, we are asking all our data users to take a 15-minute survey, to privately share what works, what doesn't, and what features they would like to see improved on data.census.gov. No matter what your expertise level, we want to ensure our data tool works for all our users' needs. Even if you already took our survey last year, we encourage you to complete it again this year. Complete the Survey Latest System Updates In April, we released new updates to improve your experience on data.census.gov. With this release, you will now see: More Geography Profiles Search engine optimization Technical updates to API Fixes to 21 defects Learn More The primary feature is the release of Geography Profiles for more types of geographic areas. For the first time, the site provides Geography Profiles for congressional districts, school districts, American Indian areas, Alaska Native areas, and Hawaiian home lands. All Geography Profiles provide a collection of popular data across a variety of topics from the Census Bureau in visual format. With this release, you will no longer need to rely on navigating multiple tools like My Congressional District or My Tribal Area. You can now get an overview of data for your congressional district, tribal area, and many other geographies all in one place on data.census.gov. We also applied labeling updates to webpage fields for data.census.gov. These updates provide labels for your open tabs that are unique to the searches, tables, or maps you are using. They also help search engines better understand and link to our content on data.census.gov. We applied a few labeling updates to fields for the application programming interface (API) as well to ensure compliance with the Evidence Act. We continue to add data from the Population Estimates Program to data.census.gov. This means a limited set of tables are available on the site now, and you can access them by selecting Surveys → Population Estimates → Population Estimates in the advanced search. Upcoming Webinar: Mastering Complex Geographies on data.census.gov 5/18: 2:00-3:00pm ET In this training, we will show you how to select geographic components like urban and rural, find which geographies are compatible with a dataset, and how to use the mapping feature on data.census.gov. You will also learn tips and tricks that will help with the selection of complex geographies like census tracts and block groups, vintage-based geographies, and geographies that fall within other geographies. Basics of Finding Data on data.census.gov These participatory classes walk you through examples that cover the basics of using data.census.gov to find demographic and economic data, including ways to search, options available for getting tables into Excel, how to map a table, and more. Register Advanced Usage of data.census.gov For experienced users of data.census.gov, or those who have completed the "Basics of Finding Data Using data.census.gov" workshop, this participatory class walks you through some of the more advanced ways to use data.census.gov to find demographic and economic data, including detailed race, ethnicity, and ancestry data, finding data for collections of geographies, using geographic components, and more. Register Recorded Webinars: Creating Customized Tables: Microdata Access Tool in data.census.gov The Microdata Access Tool (MDAT), available through data.census.gov, allows users to create custom tabulations with various available Public Use Microdata sets and vintages. View this webinar to learn the basics of using the MDAT tool, including how to access microdata, and a demonstration on how to access data for topics like sex, age, race and ethnicity, and more.
