Tuesday, 30 June Launch of Blueprint on fungal disease and antifungal resistance On Tuesday, 30 June, WHO will publish the Blueprint for strengthening responses to fungal disease and antifungal resistance: implementation guidance to help countries respond to one of global health’s most underestimated and neglected threats. Fungal diseases affect more than 300 million people each year, and are associated with high mortality, long-term illnesses, and major losses in health and productivity worldwide. The growing threat of antifungal resistance, driven in large part by the widespread use of antifungals in farming and the environment, is further eroding the effectiveness of an already limited number of antifungal medicines. Building on the WHO Fungal priority pathogens list and aligned with the Global action plan on antimicrobial resistance, the new Blueprint provides practical guidance for countries to prevent and respond to antifungal resistance. A webinar about the report will be held on Wednesday, 1 July from 14:00 - 15:30 CEST. Register here. For more information, please contact chriscadenk@who.int.
Country data and global goals on air pollution and health 08:30 – 17:30 CET WHO will share new data on air pollution and health linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The session will:
The publicly available data supports countries to monitor progress towards achieving WHO air quality guidelines. They focus on SDG3.9.1 (mortality attributed to ambient and household air pollution), 7.1.2 (access to clean fuels and technologies) and 11.6.2 (fine particulate matter). Register here. --- WHO Health Emergencies EPI-WIN webinar: New WHO guidance on bacterial meningitis: a tool for frontline healthcare workers 13:00 – 14:00 CEST The global burden of acute bacterial meningitis remains high, particularly in low- and middle-income countries and resource-limited settings. Following the publication of the guidelines on meningitis diagnosis, treatment and care, WHO has developed and published a new implementation guidance to translate evidence-based recommendations into practical implementation guidance for use at the point of care. A webinar will provide an overview of the newly released WHO guidance on bacterial meningitis, highlighting their relevance as a tool for frontline healthcare workers and as a means to strengthen outbreak preparedness and response efforts.
