Article Icon 1Deep Freeze Brings Wintry Mix to NC

An arctic blast was expected to create freezing rain overnight in areas along the Blue Ridge escarpment—Black Mountain, Ridgecrest, Montreat, Spruce Pine, Woodlawn, and Newland.

Cold air and moisture following the system could produce light snow in areas near the Tennessee state line late Monday night into early Tuesday.

In the Triad, be prepared for the possibility of freezing rain and a chance of occasional snowflakes through Monday evening. A brief wintry mix is also expected near the North Carolina-Virginia line north of the Triangle.

Only a low chance of snow or ice threatens areas south of I-85, with cold rain expected after 7 a.m. Monday. The cold blast is expected to extend through next week.

Article Icon 1Stein Unveils Helene Recovery Executive Orders

Newly elected Gov. Josh Stein announced five executive orders Thursday aimed at strengthening Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.

The first order allows the N.C. Department of Public Safety Secretary to purchase and place up to 1,000 Transportable Temporary Housing Units in major disaster areas.

The second delegates Stein's authority to the Division of Emergency Management to contract the repair of private roads and bridges using vendors state agencies have existing contracts with.

The remaining orders create the "Governor's Recovery Office for Western North Carolina," formalize the already-established Advisory Committee on Western North Carolina recovery, and direct the Office of State Human Resources to offer 16 additional hours of community service leave so state employees can "help their neighbors in need."

Southern Coalition for Social Justice (SCSJ) filed a suit Friday against the Town of Edenton and Chowan County for allegedly moving a controversial Confederate monument to the county courthouse instead of its voted-upon location of Hollowell Park.

The suit was filed on behalf of five Edenton residents who claim the move was made "behind closed doors and without public discussion or input" despite a unanimous vote by the Edenton Town Council in March 2023 to relocate the monument from downtown Edenton to the park.

The suit also claims the defendants' efforts "threaten to exacerbate the Confederate monument's offensiveness."

The dispute over the monument began in 2021.

The Flyover

As we age, our bodies accumulate "senescent" or "zombie" cells—old, worn-out cells that no longer serve a useful function but still consume space and nutrients from healthy cells. These cells contribute to aging symptoms, such as aches, slower workout recovery, and reduced mental and physical energy.

Much like pruning dead leaves from a plant, Qualia Senolytic helps remove these cells, allowing the body's healthier cells to thrive. This clinically tested formula is designed to rejuvenate cellular health and revitalize aging tissues, offering a potential breakthrough in supporting longevity and overall well-being.
