President Donald Trump's executive order to close the border has emboldened pranksters and criminals to target illegal immigrants in North Carolina who are susceptible to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.

In Durham, a vehicle designed to look like a U.S. Border Patrol truck—complete with flashing lights and a uniformed driver—was later revealed to be a parody.

Surveillance footage shows the vehicle coasting through a Super Compare Foods parking lot in a Hispanic community.

In Raleigh, a man was accused of sexually assaulting a woman after impersonating an ICE officer and threatening to deport her if she didn't take part in sexual acts with him. The suspect is now in custody.

Thieves broke into 15 first responders' cars at three fire stations in Chapel Hill overnight on Jan. 13 and Jan. 18, shattering windows and stealing personal items inside.

Chapel Hill Police Chief Celisa Lehew believes the offenders were looking for weapons and cash.

Thieves also targeted two fire stations in Durham and at least one in Raleigh. Many of the break-ins occurred while first responders were on call.

Durham Fire Department Division Chief Bryan Baker said that because first responders work 24-hour shifts, their vehicles are in public view to potential thieves for long periods of time.

UNC Health and Duke Health announced a partnership Tuesday to build North Carolina's first standalone children's hospital on a 100-acre campus in the Triangle region.

The 500-bed hospital will be called NC Children's and is expected to cost $2 billion. It will encompass an outpatient care center and a children's behavioral health center.

UNC Health CEO Dr. Wesley Burks called the partnership "unprecedented" and said the hospital will "change lives for generations to come."

Hospital leaders plan to break ground by 2027. A specific location has not yet been finalized.

A Special Note from Our CEO, Cole

Dear Flyover Readers,

I hope you enjoy Flyover North Carolina as much as we enjoy bringing it to you every morning. It's truly an honor to provide you with the news in a format that's easy to read, unbiased, and written with care.

Earlier this month, I had the privilege of bringing our entire national Flyover team together in one place. From 12 different states, our team of writers, editors, fact-checkers, proofreaders, developers, engineers, and more gathered to plan, strategize, and most importantly, connect. We shared meals, laughed, and brainstormed ways to make Flyover North Carolina even better for you, our readers.

Our team works incredibly hard each day, sifting through hundreds of stories (so you don't have to) to deliver you the news that matters most. While many media companies are downsizing and losing viewers, The Flyover is doing something different. We're growing.

Today, we bring the news to nearly 80,000 readers in North Carolina every single morning, and as you know Flyover North Carolina is and always will be 100% free of charge. I couldn't be more grateful to count you among our most loyal readers.

While advertisers provide a portion of our funding, we also rely on readers like you to keep Flyover North Carolina flying. Your support helps us maintain the team, tools, and resources that make our news publication possible.

If you've found value in Flyover North Carolina—if it's made your mornings better, kept you informed, or simply been a trusted source of news—I would greatly appreciate your financial support. Even a small contribution can go a long way in helping us continue to deliver the unbiased, trustworthy news you deserve.

Thank you for being part of our community. We couldn't do this without you.

Warm regards,
Cole
