Debby Causes Deaths and Delays, A New Space Program, and Early Voting Begins

At least four deaths have been attributed to Hurricane Debby, which made landfall along the Big Bend near Steinhatchee at 7 a.m. Monday as a Cat 1.

At least four deaths have been attributed to Hurricane Debby, which made landfall along the Big Bend near Steinhatchee at 7 a.m. Monday as a Cat 1.

The storm continued to blast the state as it moved inland with flooding rain, damaging winds, and a life-threatening storm surge.

After landfall, power outages skyrocketed to more than 300,000.

Airlines around the state reported thousands of flight cancellations and delays between Saturday and Monday, with the most disruptions out of Orlando International Airport, where 20% of scheduled flights were canceled.

Florida students now have the opportunity to learn the necessary skills to excel in the aerospace industry and eventually secure high-paying jobs.

The Space Florida Academy Program was introduced last week by the state’s aerospace finance and development authority, and partners with 23 school districts around the state. See the list here.

The program focuses on target areas to meet current and future industry demand: aviation/aerospace, advanced manufacturing, construction, cybersecurity/IT, logistics, and semiconductors.

To be in the top 1% of earners in Florida, you need to earn or have a net worth of at least $852,206, according to the online financial information and advice tool SmartAsset.

The report lists the top 1% and top 5% of earners by state based on IRS data.
