Good Morning! On this day in 1903, Ford Motor Company sold its first car. Ernest Pfenning of Chicago became Ford's first owner, buying a Model A for $750.

Democrats Rally Behind VP Harris

Congressional leaders and Democratic donors quickly rallied behind Vice President Kamala Harris, the party’s potential presidential nominee, on Monday as Democrats reset for November’s election.

Harris on Monday made her first comments since Biden dropped out of the race, thanking the president and stating her intention to earn the nomination.

Leading Democrats Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, James Clyburn, and Jamie Raskin swiftly endorsed Harris, and campaign donations rose again following Biden’s departure.

Harris departed for her campaign headquarters in Delaware on Monday as speculation about potential VP candidates swirled. Among the names floated were Govs. Andy Beshear and Roy Cooper, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Sen. Mark Kelly.

House Takes on Secret Service Director

The House Oversight Committee aggressively questioned Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle on Monday for failing to prevent the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Despite her opening statement in which she accepted "full responsibility" for the security lapses, Cheatle avoided responding to key questions, such as why no agents were placed on the roof where the shooter was perched.

She called the assassination attempt the "most significant operational failure of the Secret Service in decades" but failed to provide a detailed timeline explaining in detail what happened.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) accused Cheatle of being "full of s**t" and "completely dishonest."

Cheatle faced bipartisan calls to resign, with Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) asserting she has lost Congress's confidence.

America's Cheapest States to Live

West Virginia and Iowa have emerged as America’s cheapest states to live in for 2024, according to a new financial report compiled by CNBC.

CNBC analyzed the most recent available data on consumer prices, housing affordability, and cost of home insurance to determine the 10 most affordable states in the country.

Iowa’s low cost of living and affordability were enough to place the Hawkeye State at No. 2, but high insurance premiums due to the increased risk of storms and tornadoes kept it from being No. 1.

West Virginia’s cost of living is 12% lower than the national average, helping the Mountain State capture the top spot. A four-bedroom house in Charleston costs about a quarter of the price of a similar home in Seattle. See full list here.
