There may be no greater aroma than that of this eggplant dish bubbling away in the oven. Warm cinnamon highlights the meat and tomatoes, such subtle fall goodness. Lebanese "Sheik al mehsheh" means "fit for a king," and that it is. I hear from many of you that this has become a family favorite! Oh, and my recipe is featured in NYTimes Cooking, which thrills me to no end. Try the recipe in beautiful boats with small eggplant, or layered as pictured below, using globe eggplant slices. There's a story there that I love. Lebanese Vermicelli Rice is a beautiful accompaniment to the eggplant, along with a cool cucumber yogurt salad. Try my recipe for Garlicky Lentil Soup this week, and watch it disappear. A glorious slice of Garlic Butter Glazed Talami bread loves to be dunked in the soup. For a sweet, bake up a simple batch of Crunchy Sesame Cookies.
