The Big and Boring Piece of Equipment You Need Before Thanksgiving |
A good stock pot is not really an "exciting" addition to your kitchen. In a world of digital appliances they are decidedly analog. In a kitchen filled with smart technology, they are, well, dumb. But, they are vitally useful for a lot of bedrock cooking tasks: Boiling pasta, simmering those big batches of Sunday sauce, and, duh, making stock. If you've ever tried to do any of those in a too-small pot you know the pain of boilovers and other pitfalls of cooking in a vessel that can't actually fit what you're doing. We just finished retesting stock pots ahead of Thanksgiving, and Epi contributor Lukas Volger found winners across the price spectrum. Because they're so big, stock pots can easily get pricey, especially if they're incredibly high quality pieces like our favorite All-Clad pot. But you don't need to spend much to get one that will satisfy all your long-simmering needs. Check out our picks down below and click on through for more information about how we tested and to see which pots to avoid. –Noah |
